Publishers and developers City Interactive has its fair share of hits and misses. Actually more misses than hits as rightfully so, they never advertised as being a AAA developer. However there are bound to strike gold once in a while and this game, Operation Thunderstorm is actually quite good considering its basic plot, the pacing and progress made me want to play it almost in one hit as its pretty intensive yet satisfying shooting game.

The year is 1942. The British government decides to launch one of the most risky operations of World War II. The targets are the most important figures of the Third Reich. Code-named Thunderstorm and targeting the people and networks behind global wildlife crime, the operation involved police, customs, border, environment, wildlife and forestry agencies from 92 countries and resulted in millions of dollars-worth of seizures.
Investigative crime intelligence was gathered ahead of the operation to help target specific hotspots for action, including land and airport border points and wildlife parks. Cars, trucks, boats and cargo transporters suspected of moving illicit products were also targeted with searches carried out by officers, often with specialist sniffer dogs and x-ray scanners.
Global police and customs officials have concluded the most widespread environmental crime operation ever organized, involving 109 countries and resulting in nearly 2,000 seizures of protected wildlife, including 440 ivory pieces, more than 4,300 birds, and nearly 10,000 live turtles and tortoises, according to Interpol.
Officials hope the scale of this operation and the new collaboration between Interpol and the WCO, two of the largest enforcement organizations in the world, will set a precedent for working together in the future.

Lightning activity represents the thunderstorm activity, namely, the intensity and area of precipitation and/or updraft. Thunderstorm is also important as a proxy of the energy input from ocean to atmosphere inside tropical cyclone, meaning that if we could monitor the thunderstorm with lightning we could predict the maximum wind velocity or minimum pressure near the center of the tropical cyclone by one or two days before. Constructing ELF observation sites, international/nation-wide VLF observation networks and a regional dense network of slow antennas installed at about 50 automated weather stations in Metro Manila, we plan to establish the monitoring system for thunderstorm development in western pacific warm pool (WPWP) where typhoon is formed and in detail in Metro Manila. Making use of the lightning activity data measured by the ground-based networks, we could operate micro-satellites, such as DIWATA-1 developed by Philippines, to make stereo imaging for estimation of 3-D structure and the speed of development of thunderstorm. We would establish a new methodology to obtain very detail semi-real time information that cannot be achieved only with existing observation facilities, such as meteorological radar or large meteorological satellite. Using this new system we try to issue nowcast for the local thunderstorm and for tropical cyclones. The 5-year project in Philippines will start in coming April.
A prototype Radar Data Processing System has been in use at the Centre Météorologique du Québec (CMQ) during the summer of 1988. This system allows real-time reception and processing of full volumetric data from the McGill University radar at 5 minutes intervals for use by operational meteorologists, thus providing them with a powerful tool to analyse and display radar data in multiple ways and to produce short-term forecasts. The capabilities of the system allow an in-depth determination of thunderstorm structure and evolution, resulting in a better diagnosis of thunderstorm severity in an operational setting. Users are able to study horizontal and vertical cross-sections (as well as many other products) through a thunderstorm in real time in order to determine whether or not typical features associated with severe thunderstorms are present. The system also allows fast animation of radar echoes, enabling the easy recognition of typical severe storm behaviour such as storm propagation to the right of the mean propagation direction and new cell growth in a multicellular complex.
During the spring-summer of 1979, six lightning warning devices were evaluated in a side-by-side comparison study at three test sites. Stock commercial devices were selected based upon distinct concepts of operation. The devices tested included a sferics counter, a corona point, a radioactive probe, a field mill, an azimuth/range locator and a triangulation locator. The test sites were chosen to provide varied thunderstorm conditions: 1) San Antonio, Texas (cold air advection), 2) Kennedy Space Center, Florida (localized surface heating) and 3) Langmuir Laboratory, New Mexico (orographic effects). The evaluation parameters were advance warning time, time to clear after hazard, alarm reliability, and false alarm and failure to alarm probabilities.
